How Do Temu Coupons Work? Stacking, Minimums & Bundles Explained

Temu’s discount system is more complicated than it looks, which is why two people can put identical items in a cart and pay different amounts. Nothing shady is happening — there are just several mechanisms running simultaneously and they don’t all announce themselves.

Here’s the actual structure.

The five layers

Layer 1 — item-level discounts. Already baked into the listing price. Nothing to do here.

Layer 2 — account coupons. These live under “My coupons & offers” and apply automatically when your cart qualifies. Most people never open this screen and have no idea what’s sitting in it.

Layer 3 — checkout codes. The kind you paste in. This is where alc640991 and similar codes go.

Layer 4 — bundles. A coupon bundle isn’t a coupon. It’s a container that drops several coupons into layer 2, which then apply across future orders. This distinction causes enormous confusion, so it gets its own section below.

Layer 5 — free shipping thresholds. Separate from everything above and applied last.

What a coupon bundle actually is

When you activate a bundle, nothing visible happens to your current cart. That’s the moment most people conclude it didn’t work.

What actually happened: several coupons were deposited into your account. Each has its own minimum and its own expiry. They fire on subsequent orders as your carts qualify. So a “$100 bundle” isn’t a hundred dollars off — it’s perhaps eight coupons that add to roughly that if you use every one of them before they expire.

The stacking rules, as far as they can be observed

Temu doesn’t publish a stacking matrix, so this is from testing rather than documentation — treat it as reliable-ish, not gospel.

• Account coupons + checkout code: usually combine. Different layers, different systems.
• Two checkout codes: almost never. One code field, one code.
• Coupon + free shipping threshold: combine, but note the discount is often applied before the shipping threshold is evaluated. A $38 cart with a 20% coupon becomes $30.40, which may drop you back under a $35 shipping threshold. Watch for this — it’s the single most common way people accidentally pay shipping.
• Order matters. If a combination refuses, try applying the codes in the reverse sequence. This resolves it more often than it has any right to.

Minimums: the thing that quietly costs you money

Nearly every Temu coupon has a cart minimum. A $15-off coupon requiring a $50 cart won’t fire at $47.80, and Temu won’t tell you you’re close — it just silently doesn’t apply.

The move is straightforward: before checkout, open your coupon list, note the nearest threshold above your cart total, and check whether adding one small item unlocks a coupon worth more than the item costs. Adding $2.20 to trigger $15 off is obviously worth it. Adding $22 to trigger $15 off is not — and that’s the trap on the other side.

Why your coupon “disappeared”

Three usual causes. It expired — bundle coupons have short lives and die quietly. You removed an item and dropped below the minimum, so it de-applied. Or it was category-restricted and the qualifying item left your cart.

The habit that actually saves money

Open “My coupons & offers” before you build the cart, not after. Nearly all avoidable losses on Temu come from shopping first and discovering afterwards that a coupon needed $4 more, or expired yesterday, or only covered a category you didn’t buy from.
